Tulipani

The design of these felt tulips isn't actually new (here's the tutorial I've posted almost a year ago), but they seem to be still liked by many :-) and I must say I find them very pretty, too.

This bouquet of ten tulips is not sewn with backstitches as in the tutorial; instead, I've used straight stitches and made the flowers identical on both sides, so that they can be displayed perfectly in a vase on a table. I simply love their pastel colours.

Buona domenica!

It seems like everyone's waiting for spring to finally come... well, I must say I'm no exception. So, while waiting for butterflies and beetles and ladybugs (and unfortunately mosquitos, too) to fly around, I've created this cute chubby bee, as a flowerpot decoration :)

- feltro giallo, bianco e rosa
- filo di lana o da ricamo marrone
- filo semplice da cucito giallo e nero
- un po' di imbottitura
e ovviamente forbici affilate, aghi e spilli.
All you need to make a bee like this is:
- yellow, white and pink felt
- brown wool or embroidery thread
- yellow and black sewing thread
- a bit of stuffing
and of course sharp embroidery scissors, needles and pins.

1. Print the templates full-size, pin them on felt and cut out from yellow felt two shapes of the body and from white felt one shape of the wings. Cut two tiny circles from a scrap of pink felt to make the cheeks of the bee.

2. Sew two lines with brown wool or embroidery thread, using backstitches. Sew the lines on both the shapes of the bee, then sew the pink cheeks with a spiral. Make two french knots for the eyes with simple black thread.

3. Put the wings in between the two shapes of the bee and pin it together. Start sewing from the belly and use small running stitches, equally spaced one from the other; leave a small gap and insert some stuffing, then continue sewing to fill the space between the stitches you've already sewn. This way you'll have a nice straight line as if you'd have used backstitches, making your bee identical on both sides. Sew to close with a hidden knot.

4. Insert a 15cm metal wire inside the bee in between the stitches (or you can use a thin skewer stick instead).

Your cute felt bee is now ready to bring some colour to your windowsill :)
