As anticipated in the peace doves post, here's a new Christmas tutorial that's as white and dainty as the snow: it's a soft felt snowflake ornament with sparkling sequins, perfect as a Christmas tree ornament (looks amazing on it, trust me!)

❄ paillettes (6mm) e perline (2mm) argentate e bianche-madreperlate
❄ filo semplice bianco

I really like snowflakes. They immediately get me in a winter mood, which is a season that I happen to love more and more each year.

This is an easy and relatively quick project, although some cutting and blanket stitching skills are required... but it's all worth the effort to me ^_^
To make a felt snowflake like this you'll need:
❄ white felt, 1 mm thick; two 12x12cm squares will do
❄ silver and pearly-white sequins (6mm) and beads (2mm)
❄ simple white sewing thread
❄ some white crochet thread to hang the snowflake (or, even better, a thin silver twine)
❄ needle, pins and sharp embroidery scissors
❄ stuffing, as polyfill
❄ paper and printer to print the template at the end of this tutorial :-)

❄ COME SI FA/INSTRUCTIONS

1. Print the paper template, cut it out, pin it to white felt and cut out a felt snowflake.
2. Use the felt snowflake as a template to cut out a second snowflake (this way they're going to be pretty much identical)
3. IMPORTANT: unless you're incredibly precise with scissors (in this case you have all my most sincere admiration), the snowflake branches will look all a bit different from each other; be careful in separating the two felt snowflakes and use a pin to mark the branches that you're going to overlap later, so the two snowflake pieces will match perfectly when you'll sew them together.
4. Take one felt snowflake and sew some silver and white sequins with beads (first the sequin, then the beads, and then the same sequin again). Overlap and pin the two snowflake pieces
5. Sew with blanket stitch from the point shown in the picture. Stuff each branch as soon as you sew it, with small puffs of polyfill (push the stuffing gently in with a rounder tool; I use the handle of a long brush).
6. Poke the needle with the crochet thread on top of a branch in between the blanket stitches.

The felt snowflake is ready :-) I wish you a merry and white Christmas!

Here we are, the freezing cold of these days is clearly announcing it: winter is coming and Christmas is just around the corner. There're only 26 days left! Eeek! Manu is very excited ^_^
If you want to craft Christmas presents or ornaments for your home yourself, then it's definitely time to get started. So here's a super-simple, super-quick and - I shouldn't say it about my own work, but who cares - super-cute tutorial, which will guide you through the steps to make a sparkling little dove like those below. A lovely present to give or keep, to hang on your Christmas tree or wherever you like best :-)

Occorrente:
feltro bianco avorio e grigio antracite
filo semplice da cucito, bianco, grigio chiaro e nero
 paillettes e perline argentate (6 mm e 2 mm)
perline di vetro tonde nere (4mm)
 spago argentato
 fard rosa per le guance
 forbici, spilli, ago

You'll need:
ivory white and charcoal grey felt
simple sewing thread, white, light grey and black
silver sequins and beads (6mm and 2mm)
 black glass rounded beads (4mm)
 silver cord
pink powder blush for the cheeks
 scissors, pins, needle
paper and printer to print the templates at the end of this tutorial.

PROCEDIMENTO/INSTRUCTIONS

1. Print and cut out the template at the end of this tutorial. Pin the paper dove on ivory felt and cut out 2x doves.
2. Cut out a small triangle of charcoal felt for the beak.
3 and 4. Overlap the two doves with the beak placed in between, pin them together and sew with white thread using blanket stitch, starting from the chest of the dove. Leave an open gap of about 2 cm and stuff with small puffs of polyfill. Stuff the tail and wing first, then sew to close.

5. Add the sequins and beads (first a sequin, then a bead and again the same sequin) on tail and wing, on both sides. Hide the starting knot inside the dove by poking the needle in between the blanket stitches. TIP: sew the sequins on both sides with the same thread, going all the way through the felt after sewing the last sequin, so the needle comes out on the other side of the dove.

6. Add the black beads for the eyes. As for the sequins, attach both eyes with the same black thread, hiding the first knot on the inside of the dove and the closing knot under one eye.

7. Tap a bit of pink powder blush for the cheeks, using a cotton stick.

8. Poke a pin on the top of the wing and lift the dove up by it: if it hangs balanced, that’s the point where you should insert the silver hanging cord, making it slide in between the blanket stitches.

Ecco fatto! ;-)

That's it! The dove is ready :-) A new white and sparkly tutorial is coming up soon, stay tuned... ;-)

Crafty Christmas tutorial link-up

Carino, no? :-)
A few weeks ago, Laura from Lupin Handmade (amazing crafter and my first felt supplier) shared a very lovely idea with all of her creative followers on her Facebook page: a Crafty Christmas tutorial link-up. Everyone who takes part to the link-up has to share a Christmas tutorial on his/her own blog today, so here's my project -- a very quick & easy one, but cute nonetheless: it's a tiny house gift tag holder, with a pocket on its back, pretty lace ribbon and a heart shaped wooden button.

Although it's meant to be a gift tag holder, with a piece of ribbon it can easily turn into a Christmas tree decoration or a cute garland, or even a keyring... for you home keys, of course ^_^

To make these houses I've used scraps of felt and ribbon, so this is also a good way to upcycle small pieces left from other bigger projects.
To make a house like this you'll need:

felt: two pieces of 10x10cm for the house and a 6x4cm piece for the pocket; choose the colours you prefer (I've used red and moss green), 1mm thick
a piece of lace ribbon (8cm)
 a wooden heart-shaped button (1cm)
 stuffing like polyfill
simple sewing thread, same felt colours + white
 needle, pins, scissors
paper and printer to print the templates at the end of this tutorial :-)

 ❤    PROCEDIMENTO / INSTRUCTIONS ❤ ❤ ❤

1) Print the templates full-size and cut them out. Pin the paper templates on felt and cut out 2x house pieces and 1x pocket piece.
2) Pin the lace ribbon on one house piece and sew it with white thread, using running stitch.
3) Fold the ends of the ribbon on the reserve side of the house and whipstitch them with a few stitches into the felt, not through it, to keep them in place.
4) On the second house piece, pin and backstitch the pocket, leaving the top open. Sew with matching colour thread or use a different one (I've used red thread on green felt).

5)  Cut a 6x1cm stripe of felt (same colour as the pocket), fold it and pin it to the house piece with the pocket, on the reverse (which is going to be the inside of the finished house)
6) Whipstitch the chimney to the house with a couple of stitches into the felt, not through it.

7) Overlap the front and back house pieces and sew together with blanket stitch and red thread, starting from the middle of the bottom border. Leave a 1cm open gap and stuff (push small puffs of polyfill gently to the pointy ends first, using a rounded tool like the handle of a brush).

COME CUCIRE A PUNTO FESTONE ATTRAVERSO IL CAMINO
How to sew through the chimney

a) Infila l'ago attraverso il camino sul retro della casetta; non tirare il filo completamente, lascia un piccola asola;
b) Infila l'ago attraverso il camino sul fronte della casetta, proprio sopra al punto dove esce il filo;
a) Poke the needle through the chimney on the back of the house; don't pull the thread completely, but keep a little loop;
b) poke the needle again on the front of the house, right above the point where the thread comes out;
c) Let the needle go through the loop on the back and pull upward.

TA-DA! Casina pronta :-) Semplicissima!
Tiny house ready :-) Easy peasy!
I've also made a few of these in brown and neutral colours, they look like cookies to me :-)

Occorrente:
 carta da pacchi;
 una striscia di carta bianca larga 3cm. La lunghezza dipende dalle dimensioni del vostro pacchetto; misuratelo con un metro da sarta e aggiungete alla striscia 1 cm (per far sovrapporre le estremità della striscia);

And finally, I thought it would be nice to show you these houses on a nicely wrapped gift... so this gift wrapping idea came out, which is very simple and easy, just like the houses (and it has hearts, too).
You'll need:
❤ kraft paper;
❤ a stripe of white paper, 3cm wide. The lenght depends on the dimensions of the package, so measure it and add 1cm to the stripe (to be able to overlap the ends of the stripe);
❤ a heart craft punch, baker's twine and gingham ribbon.

I've wrapped my gift in kraft paper (recycled!) and added the heart-punched stripe with just a drop of hot glue on the ends. I've then wrapped the baker's twine through the house's chimney and around the package; I've knotted the ends and hot glued it to the white paper stripe (not to the kraft paper). Finally I've added the gingham ribbon, which I've hot glued just like I did with the paper stripe. I haven't glued the decorations on the kraft paper to make them be easily removed without cutting anything.
To add a final touch of Christmas-ness, just put your gift into a bag along with three cinnamon sticks, wrapped together with some baker's twine. It'll both look and smell wonderfully :-)

Here it is, the long anticipated first post of the well announced Christmas-themed post series.
This year, as in the last couple of years, I was already crafting for Christmas in torrid summer days, so I could have all the time to design and create something cute enough to meet my taste... ok, actually the truth is I'm the messiest person on earth, so if I want something to be done in time I have to start doing it waaaay in advance.
The first project I'm showing here today is a big Christmas tree, unusually red (by customer's request), about 30 cm tall, fixed into a little terracotta pot I've painted in gold and white with acrylics. It has gold sequins on both sides (since it's meant to be a decorative centrepiece). It also has a stick of cinnamon inside its trunk which makes it stand sturdy and smell wonderfully.

I never thought a red Christmas tree could ever look so good! I love the way it turned out, I might even make one for myself, too!
The second project is yet another Christmas tree, this time in green and flat, with a green ribbon on its top so it can be hung on a door or wall.

Fidatevi.
It was raining when I took these pictures and the natural light was poor, so the sequins appear much less bright and sparkly as they truly was... the tree looked much prettier than this in person.

Finally - some of you might have seen them already on my Facebook page - I've made some little houses which I love to think as elves homes, with heart-shaped buttons as door handles, felt round windows and white sequins like lots of sparkly snowflakes on their pointy roofs.

In the next post I'll share with you a tutorial that actually are two related to something very nice in which I've took part :-) Besitos

In the previous post I said I was going to start blogging about Christmas crafts & tutorials, but I'm sure you'll pardon me if I make a little exception today and share with you lovely folks the tutorial for an idea that came to my mind by chance really, after having unwrapped (and eaten) a lollipop. Curious ? Now I tell you.
The plastic wrapping of a lollipop is a true cat-bait: it makes that crackling noise which is truly unresistable for them. Or at least this is the effect it has on my cat. So I decided to upcycle the lollipop wrapping and make her a cat toy with it: a crackling felt cockroach.

At first, I thought I'd make a classic mouse. But I widely prefer seeing Giada chasing a yucky cockroach that a cute little mouse. And maybe this toy will encourage her to hunt real insects, too (which she only stares at most of the time... she's an animal-rights activist I guess).

This is what you'll need to make your cat toy cockroach:
- felt, any colour, better if dark (I've used scraps of dark brown and grey felt)
- sewing machine
- a tailor's chalk or something similar to trace the template on dark felt
- needle and pins
- black thread
- a 10 cm piece of hemp twine
- 1 metre of cotton cord or crochet thread (only if you want to trail the cockroach around)
- and of course a lollipop wrapping.

1. Print the templates at the end of this post. Pin the body template on felt and trace its outline with chalk. Cut out a bigger shape, leaving 1 cm border from chalk trace.
2. Use this felt body piece to cut out a second one.

3. Pin the wings paper template on felt and cut out 2 pieces.
4. Pin two scraps of lollipop wrapping on one wings piece.

5. Overlap the two wings pieces and sew them together. Remember to remove the pin before sewing to close.
6. Sew the wings many times, going over the lines of stitches already made, to make them sturdy enough to hold up your cat's claws ;-)
7. Take two 5 cm pieces of hemp twine and knot the ends. Place them between the two body pieces, leaving out the knots.
8. Sew the body pieces together along the chalk trace, leaving a small open gap on one side.
9. Turn the cockroach out. Poke a needle with the 1metre cotton cord inside the opening and in between the antennae. Tie the end of the thread so that the knot stucks on the inside of the cockraoch.
10. Stuff the cockroach lightly with a bit of polyfill and the remaining lollipop wrapping.

11. Now you just need to hand stitch the wings to the body (along the top side only) over the stitches already made. And TA-DA! your cockroach is ready :-)

Ci gioca fino allo sfinimento (vedi ultima foto)
Giada is mad about her new hand made toy! She plays with it to exhaustion (see last pic)

Today I show you another baby name banner I've made quite some time ago and totally forgot about it afterwards (oops!), that I've digged out of the messy folder with pics of my works.

The colours are those of the wallpaper that Gabriel's mom has chosen for her baby's room. I must say I really like this colour combination of greens and blues, with a touch of orange to brighten it all up ^_^

The next post will officially open the "Christmas seasons" made of tutorials and other goodies ^_^ Stay tuned!

Tutorial d'autunno

Pears are probably my favourite fruit. I especially love Williams pears, so sweet and juicy, I simply can't resist them. So, to celebrate the official start of autumn (hurrah!) and its most delicious fruit (and also because I have a thing for brooches lately), I've made this quick&easy pattern to share with you.

- feltro giallo pastello, marrone e verde oliva
- ago e spilli
- una piccola spilla da balia
- forbici affilate e appuntite
- due perline tonde nere (4mm di diametro)

To make a little pear brooch like this you'll need:
- pastel yellow, brown and olive green felt
- simple sewing threads, same colours as felt + black and red thread
- some polyfill
- a bit of pink powder blush
- a cotton stick
- needle and pins
- a small safety pin
- sharp embroidery scissors
- two rounded black beads (4mm wide)

1. Print the pear and leaf templates you'll find at the end of this tutorial. Pin the paper pear to yellow felt and cut 2x pear pieces. The leaf is very small so you don't need to pin it; just hold the paper template and felt together with your fingers and cut. You'll need two leaf pieces.

2. To make the stalk, cut a 4cm x 8mm stripe of brown felt, fold it and trim the borders to give it a trapezoid shape.

3. Sew the stalk and the leaf with blanket stitch, then sew them on one piece of pear with just a few stitches, without going all the way through the felt. This will keep them in place while you'll sew the front and back of the pear together.

4. Take the other pear piece and sew the bead-eyes on it. Tap a bit of pink powder blush with a cotton stick to make the cheeks. Embroider a little smiling mouth with double red thread (to make the mouth as simmetrical as possible, you can use a pin as a "marker" to know where to begin and end sewing, as in the picture)

5. Overlap front and back pear, pin and sew together with blanket stitch. Start sewing from one side of the pear and leave a small open gap to insert a bit of stuffing, then close. Sew the safety pin on the back of the pear, with a simple whipstitch.

TA-DA!
TA-DA! Here's you tiny pear brocch, very kawaii I'd say ^_^

Of course I gave him a name and of course his name is William. What an original name, huh?

Pears in this pic have become an exquisite pear strudel, so I think I deserve one  two slices of it right now ^_^
